This work, themed around “speech,” is built around photographs of Yuuki, a dancer who lives with a stutter.
As a child I experienced selective mutism, a condition that left me unable to speak at school, and my work grows out of that experience.
After being introduced to Yuuki by a mutual acquaintance in 2018, I translated the felt experience of “not being able to speak smoothly, of the difficulty of speech itself” directly into photographic form.
